Institutional Advancement changes name

Jul 5, 2011

In an age where campus, local and national communities are bombarded with information from countless directions, the Division of Institutional Advancement has moved to make its role at the College clearer and more memorable.

The division has selected a new name, Advancement and External Relations, to better articulate its activities in advancing Metro State by cultivating public, private and community support through collaborations and strategic partnerships.

Advancement and External Relations is comprised of Alumni Relations, College Communications, Development, Metro State Foundation, Sponsored Research and Programs and the Center for Urban Connections, which recently joined the division.

From June 1-8, the division surveyed more than 40 of its staff members to answer the question, “Does our current name reflect the depth of our knowledge, expertise and influence?”

“Our research indicated that we need to better identify our role at the College with both internal and external audiences,” says Vice President for Advancement and External Relations and Foundation Executive Director Carrie Besnette Hauser. “This new name will also help us to quickly identify ourselves when interacting with the public, whether it be at national conferences or in conversations with community leaders, elected officials or potential donors.”

The decision was made based on the survey results and a discussion by team members at a divisional meeting last month.

“When key stakeholders and friends of the College have a better understanding of our multi-pronged role,” Besnette Hauser says, “it makes it easier to establish partnerships and collaborations that not only benefit faculty, staff and students but also the community at large.”
