Plenty of people hold plenty of opinions on the issue of Metro State’s name, and they’re letting the College know.

An online survey on the issue has been available only since Feb. 10, and already more than 4,000 people have voted on a possible new name for the College.

Specifically, 4,110 people, representing 96 percent of the website’s unique visitors, had voted as of Monday morning, Feb. 14.

Associate Vice President for Communications and Advancement Cathy Lucas says, “The response to the survey—in just the first four days—demonstrates the initiative’s importance to the Metro State community and to the community at large.”

To vote and be a part of the ongoing conversation, go to the Name Change Initiative website. Voting ends Feb. 28.

Other outreach efforts include a town hall meeting for the Latino community on campus in Science Building 1086 on Thursday, Feb. 17 from 4-5 p.m. The College is also planning an alumni call-in town hall meeting on Monday, Feb. 21 from 7-8 p.m. Information about the initiative and the survey URL have been sent to all alumni for whom the College has e-mail addresses, President Stephen Jordan's Community Cabinet, the Metro State Foundation Board, all faculty and staff, and the membership of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. Social media efforts include the College's and Alumni Association's Facebook pages and the Metro State alumni group on LinkedIn.

In the news
The initiative has received substantial attention from the news media. Most recently, two guest editorials ran in the Feb. 13 Denver Post in response to a Feb. 7 Post editorial. One letter was written by Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs Luis Torres and Associate Vice President of Enrollment Services Judi Diaz Bonacquisti; the other was written by former CEO of the Colorado Housing Finance Authority Roy Alexander (’74), Galloway Group CEO Jean Galloway, and former Director of the Denver Office of Economic Development John Huggins.
