The Metro State Board of Trustees (BOT) is gearing up to address major initiatives in the 2011-12 academic year, including the introduction of a name change during the 2012 legislative session.
The BOT voted unanimously at a special meeting on April 21 to defer seeking legislative action to change the College’s name to Denver State University from the 2011 legislative session until the 2012 legislative session.
At the same meeting, the trustees also voted to establish a BOT Strategic Name Initiative (SNI) committee to further research the internal and external impact of a name change. Trustee Terrance Carroll chairs the committee, with Trustees Dawn P. Bookhardt and Bill Hanzlik serving as members. Faculty Trustee David Kottenstette, Student Trustee Jacob LaBure and Alumni Trustee Eric Peterson are also members.
The SNI committee is scheduled to meet every three weeks during the summer, with the next meeting being on Wednesday.
