At the south entrance to the Student Success Building (SSB) a concrete disc stands empty, awaiting installation of the monumental bronze sculpture, “One World One Water” by Denver sculptor Rik Sargent.

Metro State will dedicate the piece, Wednesday, May 2, at 4:30 p.m. at the installation site.

Created as an artistic expression of how all living things are connected to water, the sculpture’s dramatic shape evokes a drop of water and the infinity symbol—a reference to the endless flow of water from ocean to atmosphere and back again.

Educational in nature, the sculpture inspired the name of Metro State’s One World One Water Center for UrbanWater Education and Stewardship (OWOW) and illustrates water’s importance through its bas-relief depiction of 20 habitats, 100 animals and industrial water users.

Standing 14-feet high and weighing one-and-a-half tons, the piece was cast at Art Castings of Colorado in Loveland. The sculpture spent a six-month residency at the Bozeman Public Library in Montana as part of a sponsorship by the Project Wet Foundation before being installed in its permanent space in front of Metro State’s Student Success Building.

The sculpture was a private donation to Metro State.
