President’s Office welcomes two new employees

The Office of the President has added two new employees to its staff: an assistant director of institutional diversity and paralegal/assistant to the general counsel. Both started last week.

Frederick Davis

Frederick Davis, assistant director of institutional diversity, has worked with Fortune 500 companies, including State Farm Insurance and Starbucks Coffee Company, over the last five years as part of their human resources and global diversity and inclusion teams. Prior to that, he served as director of four student services departments at Tacoma Community College and as adjunct faculty at two other colleges, teaching courses in ethnic studies, African American history, the Civil Rights Movement, as well as multicultural counseling.

Interim Associate to the President for Institutional Diversity Myron Anderson says: “Fred brings many transferable skills and experiences to Metro State. The merging of his private sector experiences in diversity and inclusion and his understanding of higher education will add value to our goal of promoting inclusive excellence.”

Davis, a former football player at CSU, has a bachelor’s in speech communication from the university. In 1994 he received his master’s from San Francisco State University. He has taken courses at the University of Washington towards a doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy Studies. A native of Boulder, Colo., Davis says he is “looking forward to playing a part in the continued success of the inclusive excellence work being done at Metro State.”

Nicole Taylor

Nicole Taylor, paralegal/assistant to General Counsel Loretta P. Martinez, has worked in various legal capacities with Denver Human Services, the Denver City Attorney’s Office and the CSU Office of General Counsel and Board of Governors. Her new role marks her return to familiar surroundings.

“I am a Denver native, and as a young child I attended mass at both St. Elizabeth’s and St. Cajetan’s. My family members lived right here on campus on 9^th Street,” says Taylor, who is on track to receive her law degree from DU in May 2010. “I literally watched the Auraria Campus be developed and built. I obtained my paralegal certificate at CCD, and three of my four daughters attend or have attended Metro. You might say working here feels like coming home.”

Martinez says: “I am very excited to have Nicole join the General Counsel’s office. Her previous paralegal experience in complex organizations, including higher education, will be invaluable in this new role and will help me enhance and expand the delivery of legal services to the campus as a whole.”
