RNL, leading the eight-firm design consulting group on the Student Success Building, continues delivering presentations to Metro State employees and soliciting feedback as the firm develops concepts for what will be the first building in Metro State’s Neighborhood Master Plan. The building will be at the southwest corner of Auraria Pkwy. and Ninth St., directly west of the TAPS parking garage.
Last Thursday, about 20 Metro State employees attended an RNL presentation of interior design concepts, from proposed workspaces and private offices to detailed options such as lighting, flooring, painted walls and window shades. The attendees represented a number of College departments from student services to financial aid to admissions.
Some of their concerns include:
- Student confidentiality: In a discussion about window shades, the group wanted to know if people passing by on the outside of the building would be able to recognize students inside. For example, some students may not want others to know they are applying for financial aid.
- Sound masking: The group wanted to know if this technique of reducing or eliminating awareness of pre-existing sounds in a given area would affect service animals that accompany those with disabilities.
- Furniture: Safety and comfort was a key concern when viewing photos of furniture concepts. The group emphasized that they didn’t want furniture with pointed edges to be a hazard for the children who may be in waiting areas with their parents.
