A Segway history tour of the Minneapolis Riverfront
was one of President Stephen Jordan's many educational experiences on
a trip to Minneapolis on Oct 1-3 for Leadership Exchange 2009, a
program of the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation. Jordan, who
was recently elected to the foundation's board of directors, was
joined by Trustee Maria Garcia Berry, Metro State Foundation Board
Chair Jon Robinson, and Vice President for Institutional Advancement
and Executive Director of the Foundation Carrie Besnette.
The City-to-City Leadership Exchange (LEX), now in its 20th year of
operation, brings Denver's prominent business and civic leaders
together to discuss the innovations and best practices of a city facing
relevant business and policy issues while strengthening the collective
vision and collaboration in the Denver community. More than 140
business leaders participated in the program, which provides great
opportunities for networking and connecting, according to Besnette.
"This particular exchange directly supported projects that we are
currently working on by helping us to continue to build synergy" says
Besnette. "We were joined by representatives from RNL, who will be
designing the Student Success Building and by the president of Sage
Hospitality, who will be managing the Hotel Learning Center. We're
bringing back great ideas to Denver and determining how Metro State can
be part of solutions to the city's challenges."
Discussion topics at the exchange included education rom early
childhood through higher education, healthcare and health reform,
corporate philanthropy and innovation in energy. Other attendees
included Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien.
