Student Success Building topped out!

Jul 5, 2011
Metro Rising: Construction on the Student Success Building reached new heights in mid May when the facility’s highest beam was set.
Anyone who has passed by the construction site for the Student Success Building (SSB) knows that it’s only a matter of time before faculty, staff and students are walking the hallways heading to one of many classes or offices in the new facility.

Sean Nesbitt, the College’s director of facilities planning and space management, says, “We topped out the building in mid May, which means the highest beam on the structure was set. Now we are working on framing the exterior walls. You can already see both wings on Ninth Street and Auraria.”

Over the next couple of months passers-by will see masonry work begin and the installation of the curtain wall (or windows) at the SSB.

This summer, many departments are
relocating to different buildings on campus as part of the Backfill Project, which was developed to make the best use of the space that will be vacated by offices moving into the SSB in 2012. On Sept. 9 the following departments will move to these locations:

Philosophy, Central 303
Nursing, West 247
Health Professions, West 239

When the four-story, 145,000-square-foot Student Success Building opens, it will increase the College's dedicated classroom and administration space by 25 percent.
