Breakfast will be served. The program will begin at 8 a.m.
Here are the 2012 Distinguished Service honorees:
President’s Award
In his 43 years at MSU Denver, Wilton Flemon, professor of chemistry, has established the African and African American Studies Department , developed new programs and classes for the Chemistry Department and helped keep the Rachel B. Noel Distinguished Visiting Professorship a vital part of the University’s academic and community outreach.
Faculty Award
During his tenure at MSU Denver Kevin Kuhlmann, professor of aviation and aerospace science, has remained an active lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He has fulfilled both roles admirably. For instance, while on active duty in the Middle East several years ago, he continued to help students with their advising and career-development needs. Once, while stationed in a zone of intense fighting, Kuhlmann worked with a University colleague via e-mail on a curriculum development and audit review process.
Administrator Award
Denny Boyd, director of New Student Orientation in the Admissions Office, has helped more than 51,000 new students and 22,000 incoming transfers get oriented and settled at MSU Denver. What’s more, he has mentored three assistant directors, a pre-enrollment coordinator, 19 graduate interns and more than 70 student employees. And consider this number: Boyd has raised more than $100,000 from vendors who exhibit to students during orientation.
Classified Staff Awards
Veronica Miera, admissions processing supervisor, supervises five staff and several work-study students who last year alone processed more than 23,000 applications along with thousands of high schools transcripts and related documents. Her staff keeps a 24- to 48-hour turnaround time on processing applications. And she’s known for helping other employees, especially with the Banner system, which she played a key role in implementing.
As the art director, designer, photographer and photo editor in the Marketing and Communications Office Julie Strasheim is behind literally thousands of images, publications, brochures, advertisements, magazines, flyers, events and portraits. About to celebrate her 30th anniversary at MSU Denver, Strasheim has become an integral part of promoting the University and all its endeavors.
