  2008 Writes of Spring Contest Rules:

 

    All currently enrolled MSCD students are eligible to participate.

 

Þ     You may enter a maximum of two categories, but no category more than once. 

Þ     Length limits:

 Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Linguistics & Academic Essay:  Max of 10 pp, double-spaced, 12 pt font.

             Poetry:  One poem not to exceed 50 lines.

             Drama:  Max of 10 pp — One-act play or excerpt of longer work.

 

Þ     Prepare four copies in proper format (fiction & nonfiction must be double-spaced,

      12 pt font with numbered pages; poetry must by typed; drama must be in standard

      script format with pages numbered.)  Include the title on the manuscript!

 

Þ     Contestant’s name must NOT appear on the submission! 

      Instead, prepare one 3 X 5 index card with your name, address, phone number,

      student ID number, entry category, and title of submission. 

     Paper-clip this card to the top of the four copies.

 

Þ     Submissions must be delivered to the English Department office (KC 402)

      by the deadline:  Monday, March 17th at 4:00 PM!

 

Þ     Judges’ comments and rankings will not be made available to contestants.

 

Þ     1st, 2nd & 3rd Place winners and Honorable Mentions in each category will be

            announced by Monday, April 7th.

 

Þ     1st, 2nd & 3rd Place winners and Honorable Mentions in each category will be given awards

      at the English Honors Convocation.

 

 

FAILURE TO FOLLOW ANY OF THE ABOVE LISTED REQUIREMENTS WILL RESULT IN THE DISQUALIFICATION OF YOUR PIECE.
