Short Field and Power-Off Landing Event

The lead aircraft will be making all the radio calls. It’s important to know what position and heat you are in case you need to make a radio call. If you need to make a radio call, reference your heat number and position. The heats are labeled NIFA heat 1 position 1, NIFA heat 1 position 2, NIFA heat 1 position 3, NIFA heat 1 position 4, NIFA heat 1 position 5. The next heat will be NIFA heat 2.

Navigation Event

The aircraft will takeoff from runway 29R/11L to activate the judges GPS. Aircraft may land on any runway when returning. When the aircraft returns the judges will escort the contestants to a Denver Air Center fuel truck. Fuel the aircraft with the nose wheel on the “X” marked on the ground.

Message Drop

Note the modified airport diagram for the approximate position of the message drop targets.

Aircraft Parking

Overnight aircraft parking will be on the east side of the terminal building, near A-3. The east side parking area has anchors for tie-downs. However students must bring tie-downs for the east side parking area and chocks for aircraft staging. The wings and tail must be chocked and tied down.

Aircraft Staging and Shut-Down Area

The staging area is located in front of the terminal building. Students must chock their plane in this area. The PIC will tow their aircraft to this area and wait for the staging judge. The staging judge will signal the aircraft to start engines in preparation for taxi. The shut down area is next to the staging area. After landings, the heat will taxi into the shut down area, and wait for tow.
