As clarinetist/bass clarinetist for the San Francisco Opera Orchestra from 1980 to 1998, Gregory Dufford performed with many of the world’s finest opera singers including Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Kiri Te Kanawa, Montserrat Caballé, Eva Marton, Mirella Freni, Samuel Ramey, Joan Sutherland, and Marilyn Horne.  Mr. Dufford’s performing experience went well beyond the opera stage to include 13 years as Principal Clarinetist with one of America’s most respected contemporary music ensembles, the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players (SFCMP).  Premiere performances and concerts with the composers present were very common with the SFCMP.  Included in the list of world-renowned composers in attendance for their performances were Elliott Carter, John Cage, John Adams, John Harbison, Virgil Thompson, Wayne Peterson, Henri Lazarof, Earl Brown and many others.

Gregory Dufford performed with and was a founding member of several highly regarded chamber music ensembles such as the Anchor Chamber Players, which performed more that 160 pieces of chamber music in San Francisco between 1981 and 1996; the Stanford Woodwind Quintet and the Beaumont Ensemble.  Mr. Dufford also taught clarinet and classical saxophone on the faculties of San Francisco State University and Stanford University, both for 15 years.  As Principal Clarinetist of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, Sinfornia San Francisco, and the San Francisco Chamber Symphony, Mr. Dufford was featured as a soloist in works of Mozart, Weber, Stravinsky, Hoffmeister, Glazunouv, Wagner, and Rossini.

Since 2000, Mr. Dufford serves on the music faculty of Metropolitan State College of Denver where he teaches clarinet and woodwind techniques.
