Classes Taught: Introduction to Music

After undergraduate work, Sue Ellison tuned pianos and repaired violins while working on her masters in music at CU. She began teaching in 1977 and has never stopped. Supposedly “retired,” she now has time to practice and has begun two new instruments, (Irish) fiddle and euphonium. With the purchase of a vintage 1910 double bell, she joined the Fourth Artillery Regimental Brass Band. She now has regular performances with a bunch of archaic gentlemen on strange instruments accompanied by a herd of cannons.

Instrument collecting is her passion. The Ellison family has traveled to over fifty countries, soaking in the music, collecting instruments and searching for recordings.

(Sue’s daughter Hannah, a bagpiper, graduated from Metro in 2005 with a degree in English. Before graduation, Hannah secured a teaching position, further proof that Metro is a truly great college!)
