As the largest undergraduate, urban institution in the United States, the primary objective of Metropolitan State College of Denver (MSCD) is to provide excellence in treaching and learning. Although teaching is the main focus of the institution, faculty and professional staff are strongly encouraged to participate in grant activities and scholarly pursuits.

Scholarship and research activities assist professors in maintaining excellence and vitality in the classroom, and the most up-to-date instructional methodologies. Research and scholarly activities are expected to support and sustain MSCD's mission and academic goals. It is the responsibility of faculty to engage in scholarly activities that will contribute to their discipline, communicate results of pursuits to colleagues and the public, and align with MSCD's mission and goals.

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is to assist prinicipal investigators and grant writers with submission of grant applications to federal, state and local sponsors. It is the intention of OSP to provide insights into the grant process and available support, and review sponsored program administration requirements. Ways in which OSP is available to assist principal investigators during the initial phases of proposal preparation include:

1. Conduct funding searches

2. Retrieve and/or review sponsor guidelines

3. Identify any special sponsor requirements

4. Locate necessary forms, authorizations and assurances

5. Review guidelines and relate any budget provisions needed to be in compliance with requirements of sponsor and/or the institution.
