How to Submit Activities

Starry Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh"...for all the excitement of discovering a new star or nebula, a good scientist was ultimately one who took care to consider the minutest of details, weighing each tiny component that made up an observation."

George Johnson, Miss Leavitt's Stars

Note that there is a difference in submission procedures depending on whether you are in a Lecture (on-campus) class or an Online class.

Lecture class (on-campus) students
: Write up your activity in a word processor, print it out, and hand it in by the stated deadline in class. Do not email it to me and do not hand in handwritten material. Neither are acceptable. Use the format as noted in the "How to Write Up Activities" and the example provided there.

Online students: Prepare your submission off-line in a text processor. When you are ready to submit, and unless directed otherwise, use the submission form provided with each activity. The form only accepts plain text, so no fancy formatting. The form allows you to submit only onces. Do not send your submission as an email, and especialy do not send attached files. (Again -- do not email me activities without prior permission. And especially never, never, never send attached files such as Word or Excel files. I will delete attached files sent without my prior permission. Need I emphasize this more?)

Write up the activity in a text processor, such as Notepad, and then cut and paste it into the provided online submission form. How to do it: Cut and Paste Tutorial.

You can prepare your submission in a word processor (such as Word), but if you do, you will need to save your write up in plain text format. You should be able to cut it straight out of Word and paste it into the form, but it will loose your formatting and may not look good. That's why it is best just to write it in a simple text processor to begin with.

Also, you can type your submission straight into the form, but I do not suggest that because you have only one submission. If your computer goes down or you lose your Internet connection, you will lose anything you have typed it in you do it that way.

Never send an attached file via email without my permission first. Ask and if necessary, I will give you instructions.

Activities must be submitted no later than 10 p.m. on the deadline date! If you submit an activity submission without following the above directions, your submission may be delayed, or rejected entirely, or you may be subject to a points penalty. To be safe, I suggest that you submit it at least six hours before the deadline. That way, if you do not receive a confirmation, you will have time to submit it again. Activities received after the deadline will not be accepted. No extensions, no exceptions, no excuses. So please follow the directions.
