Note that the first column is simply the first day of the class week, not a deadline. The activities are always due online no later than 10 p.m. on the Saturday of the week scheduled. The tests are typically available beginning at noon Thursday until midnight on the Friday of the week scheduled. To be clear, "midnight" refers to one minute past 11:59 p.m. on Friday night. Tests can be submitted only once and are available for 60 continuous minutes. Failure to submit the test prior to the 60 minute deadline will result in a zero score with no partial credit.
  Textbook and Notes:
Your book is The Essential Cosmic Perspective, Fourth Edition by Bennett and others. You do not need the software included with the book (although it could be helpful), nor will I require that you use the textbook specific publisher's website. However, notes and activities for the class will be available only on the class (not textbook) website.
   Tests
Your 4 online tests count 50 percent of your grade. You will have a 36-hour "window" during which you may take the test (noon Thursday - midnight Friday), with a strict time limit of 60 minutes, which cannot be extended and cannot be split up. There are no make-ups, and during this summer semester there are NO drops of the lowest score. All scores count Unless you qualify for an "extenuating circumstance" as defined in the online syllabus, there will be no extensions, no exceptions, and no excuses
   Activities:
Your 4 online tests count 50 percent of your grade. Please observe the due dates for the assigned activities. The activities, counted together, are 40 percent of your final grade. You cannot afford to ignore them. Note that the subject of the activities may not correspond exactly to the textbook readings or lectures for the week they are due. These activities must be submitted online in the manner prescribe no later than 10 p.m. on the Friday they are due.  There are no extensions, no exceptions, and no excuses
   Final:
There will be a no comprehensive final in the summer
   Extra Credit:
I do not believe in the concept of extra credit except in unusual circumstances. I feel that there is already too much artificial pumping up of grades. If you are concerned about maintaining your GPA for any reason whatsoever, then you should be concerned about doing well on the regular tests and activities, not on extra credit. On rare occasion when something special comes up, I have offered it, but I have no intension of offering extra credit this semester. The bottom line is that if you study properly and do the activities, there should be no need.
   Make ups and Schedule changes:
Unless you fit the criteria outlined in the syllabus for "extenuating circumstances," I simply do not do make ups or schedule changes. If you miss a test or activity because you forgot, went on vacation or had any kind of computer problems not directly caused by the school servers, then you will have to accept the loss of credit. It is entirely the student's responsibility to keep track of the schedule and to arrange for Internet access in Denver or anywhere else in the world.
   Office Hours
I do not have regular office hours this semester. Your best method of communication with me is email. I typically respond within a few hours, although during the summer it may occasionally take 24 hours or longer. Email:
