Welcome to the Denver Student Chapter of the AMS Site!

What is SCAMS?
The Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society is made up of a group of students and professors, from Metro State University of Denver, who are pursuing degrees in meteorology or have an interest in weather and/or climate. We have a dedicated group of students committed to learning how the atmosphere works and its effects on our lives and societies. As a result, it's easy to become friends with all of the members.

What kind of things do we do?
SCAMS has planned a wide variety of trips over the years. We have visited the Denver/Boulder National Weather Service , the National Center for Atmospheric Research buildings, the Ice Core Lab and many other locations around the Front Range. We have also welcomed guest speakers to talk about various weather phenomena like El Nino, flash floods, avalanches, tornadoes, derechoes and lightning. On top of that, some have volunteered with KMGH 7 News station to work with Chief Meteorologist, Mike Nelson, and hosted many successful Storm Spotter meetings. There are also conferences that take place around the country that many SCAMS members have participated in, like American Meteorological Society and American Geophysical Union . SCAMS usually has many meetings throughout the semester and tries to accomodate everyone's busy schedule.

How do I join SCAMS?
Becoming a SCAMS member is quite easy. You do not have to have a certain number of credits nor do you have to be in a meteorology class. Just click on the "Contact US" link and contact one of the officers, or come to one of our meetings. The fee is only $10 per semester (which pays for various gatherings).

Have a look around!
Please feel free to surf around our site. We have lots of interesting things to offer! Keep checking back because this site will be updated throughout the year.
