All students in a field placement course must initiate a fingerprinting card and submit evidence of negative TB test (no more than one year old) before taking Level II education courses. “Minors Only” and “Non-Licensure” students must submit the specified artifacts as part of the course requirements. It is recommended that the artifacts be retained by the student in the event that obtaining licensure is later desired. The Department has a listing available of the required artifacts for each education course by program area.
Early Childhood Minor (without licensure)
Bachelor’s degree seeking early childhood licensure also serves three other groups of students. First, it meets the needs of the students who are initially endorsed by the Colorado Department of Education in Teacher Education in elementary education or special education and want a second endorsement in early childhood by the Colorado Department of Education. These students should be most interested in grade pre-school-3. Second, it meets the needs of students who wish to work with young children in a setting that does not require teacher licensure, especially in roles as partners, day care group leaders, and day care director. Finally, it serves students who intend to pursue graduate studies in special education, psychology, social work, or other elated fields with a focus on working with young children. Students seeking licensure need to complete additional requirements including gaining formal admission to the Teacher Education Program and student teaching. The minor does not include all teacher licensure courses for Early Childhood Education.
