Break out the Sunday best because local rockers Black Black Ocean
are hosting a funeral — that is, minus all the death and grieving.
In support of their latest EP, “Vultures for Permanent Fix,”
the boys are hosting a CD release/theme party. They’re calling
it “Formal Wear for the Dead” and those in attendance
are expected to dress the part.
Black Black Ocean has been playing in Denver for a little over a
year and they have already shared the stage with such notable acts
as Enon, Milemarker, Dismemberment Plan and others. Though their band
name has found itself a part of the broken record trend — Hot
Hot Heat, Transistor Transistor, Yeah Yeah Yeahs — don’t
take it as an indication that they ever repeat themselves or their
performances. They consistently pack little clubs with adoring fans
and admirers. Each show is an inexhaustible array of noisy art punk,
compulsory hardcore and just a bit of indie rock sassiness.
Dry-clean the suit and pamper the party dress because when Black
Black Ocean throws a funeral, everyone is invited.
Black Black Ocean parties it up Oct. 18 at Garageland, 2721 Walnut,
Denver. Doors open at 7 p.m. Cover charge is $5.
