Pizza Arena applies for liquor license
by Jennifer Parr
The Metropolitan

Pete’s Arena Pizza is applying for a liquor license in hopes that it will increase business by giving Auraria students the opportunity to purchase beer and wine on campus.

Pete’s Arena Pizza will have a hearing Oct. 16 with the Liquor Licensing Division of Denver concerning a liquor license. The liquor license will allow the pizzeria to serve beer and wine.
Dave Caldwell, finance manager of the Tivoli Student Union, said he hopes serving beer and wine will increase business.

Pete’s Arena Pizza will be the only place on campus that will serve alcohol since the Boiler Room closed down.

Pete’s Arena Pizza could be serving beer and wine with their pizza and pasta entrees in the near future. After applying for a liquor license, Pete’s Arena Pizza will have a hearing with the Denver Liquor Licensing Division on Oct. 16 and could get approval for the license shortly thereafter.

Serving beer and wine will create a better atmosphere for the restaurant, said an employee of Pete’s Arena Pizza.

The ambiance of the restaurant will be more relaxed because pizza and beer go hand in hand, Caldwell said.

It is traditional to have a beer with a slice of pizza, he said.

The pizzeria is planning to serve Coors products and Breckenridge Brewery products, but will not know for sure until the restaurant receives the liquor license.

“Everyone’s been asking ‘where’s the liquor?’” an employee from Pete’s Arena Pizza said.
Student Ryan Smith said that when he eats pizza, he would like to have a beer.

Some students are concerned about the establishment serving alcohol on campus.

The Tivoli is located on campus and there might be a problem with serving liquor especially to students who are not old enough to drink, said student Jewel Lehman.

The employees at the pizzeria assured that no one under 21 will be drinking at the restaurant.
“People need to realize that we will keep tabs on individuals that are not 21,” an employee said.
Pete’s Arena Pizza will be a place for students to unwind between class periods, employees said. Students and employees are pleased that there will be a place on campus that will be serving alcohol.

“We’re excited to have beer and wine,” an employee said.
