SGA in need of members
by Jessi Close
The Metropolitan

In Metro’s recent Student Government Assembly meeting members discussed how to go about filling three vacant positions on the SGA.

The three members who resigned are Rachel Miller, vice president of communications, Amanda Peterson, Student Advisory Committee to the Auraria Board representative and Christina Quissek, vice president of diversity.

Miller resigned at the Oct. 9 SGA meeting due to medical problems, Quissek resigned so that she could focus on her studies and it is unknown why Peterson resigned.

Their resignations apparently have nothing to do with the SGA’s recent internal problems dealing with SGA President Felicia Woodson’s appearance at a David Horowitz protest.
The original deadline for the applications to fill these positions was Sept. 30.

Members of SGA were supposed to make a decision on the issue Oct. 16, but in the meeting it was discovered that different members had different applications.

In reviewing the applications that were present, some SGA members became concerned that not enough students knew about the vacancies and therefore had no chance to apply.

It was decided that the SGA needed to reevaluate the way the applications were handled.
Members asked that the deadline for applications for all three positions be moved to Nov. 1.
They said that more advertising will be done, and applicants will be able to summit their applications online at the SGA Web site.

SGA members will narrow the field by checking for appropriate qualifications and then follow up with an interview.

The new deadline for applications is Nov. 1 and a decision will be made and announced on Nov. 13.

“Action needs to be taken,” said Woodson.
