Campus Briefs

IT quarantines campus email
Over the summer, the Metro department of Information Technology has been quarantining certain e-mails being sent to MetroConnect accounts. These quarantined e-mails possibly contain spam, which often fill up mailboxes and slow down server efficiency. According to

Huong Nguwen, a Metro junior who works for IT, some teachers have complained of having over 100 spam e-mails sent to them a day.

Along with quarantining e-mails, IT is cleaning many files within the server. IT is concerned about the spam overload because these junk e-mails often carry viruses, which can cause server crashes.

The quarantine is only temporary and IT hopes to have MetroConnect running without spam by the middle of the fall semester.

New interim VPAA appointed
Over the summer Joan Foster, interim vice president of academic affairs, appointed Linda Curran as interim associate vice president of academic affairs for curriculum and programs. Curran began working on Aug. 2.

Before coming to Metro, Curran taught and reviewed curriculum within the Anthropology department at the University of Colorado at Denver. She also spent five years working for the state college system as the chief financial officer. Curran graduated with both an academic and professional degree from the State University of New York Binghamton.

Curran is taking over Freda Holly’s position. In her new position Curran’s official duties will consist of approval of curriculum and the Metro course catalog.
