3 Questions with The Bloody Lovelies

Members: Randy Wooten (vocals/piano), Eric Holden (bass), Craig Macintyre (drums), Lance Konnerth (guitar)
Hometown: Los Angeles, Calif.
Been Around: about one year
Sounds Like: Randy Newman trying to be hip
Music: Some Truth and a Little Money (Cheap Lullaby Records)
Website: www.thebloodylovelies.com

What made you get into music?
Holden: I saw Ted Nugent. The curtain was up, and Ted Nugent comes out wearing these white leather pants with no shirt and his long hair. He snaps his finger and this gorgeous, 20 year-old goddess comes out wearing white stockings and a garter belt and this white little push up bra, carrying his white Gibson. It was ridiculous. She comes out and gives him his guitar and he kisses her on the cheek, and he hits his first A chord and the band is rockin' out. As a 15-year-old kid, I was like, 'That's what I want to do.'

What's the future direction of the band?

H: We hope that every album is going to be a little bit different. Everyone seems to have their own idea on which direction we should go in at this point, but we still feel strongly about the core sound of the band, and that's what we want to stick with. We don't want to lose that.

Your cover art seems to revolve around a central image: nudie playing cards. Is there any symbolism there?

H: It's our childhood wrapped up on our sleeve.
