Like high school homecoming, Metro is the queen of RMAC

A lot has changed since last week. First of all, the 'Runner volleyball team went 0-2 on the Fort Hays/Nebraska-Kearney road trip.

The Metro men's soccer team beat the Regis Rangers 3-1 to keep its regional hopes alive, but then lost their biggest game of the season to Fort Lewis on Friday to put their future in the one place they didn't want it to be: in the hands of the voting committee. Finally, the women's soccer team saw their hopes of winning another regular season championship in jeopardy-like last season and the year prior to that-Regis is again the runner-up. Last season was like a high school homecoming as Metro was king and queen of the RMAC party, winning both postseason tournaments. So basically, like the phrase goes: if it ain't broke...

Volleyball (14-13, 11-6 RMAC)

Metro was received with open arms by the Tigers and 'Lopers last weekend when both teams showed the 'Runners the same respect they did in Denver, as both squads swept the 'Runners in less than 90 minutes in their respective gyms just like they did when they played Metro in the Auraria Event Center. Man, now that's consistency!

Now the Roadrunners return to Auraria to play the Colorado Christian Cougars in a tune-up match before going to Chadron State to get revenge on the Eagles, who made history the last time they were here in Colorado when they ended the Roadrunners' 20 match win streak against them.

No. 2 Women's Soccer (19-1, 14-0-0 RMAC)

They have one goal: win it all. Period. All season long this team has been winning the big games, winning the conference and regional battles. In fact, the only flaw in the Roadrunnners' season was having a bad day against a 2-13-5 team in Cal-State- Bakersfield on Sept. 2 when they beat Metro 2-0.

Men's Soccer (14-4-1, 8-3-1 RMAC)

I don't understand it! They fall out of the Top 25 and the top four of the region after winning two games, and now could have their regional hopes taken from them because of a 3-0 loss to Fort Lewis, even though they were riding an eight-game unbeaten streak before the defeat. Their season is currently in limbo and the only thing they can do to save themselves from another disappointment is win the RMAC.
