METRO MINUTES

Chemistry back in action

Following several days of cleanup, repairs and modifications, Metro's organic chemistry lab was back in business Tuesday. The lab was closed Thursday as a precaution when an inspection revealed an increased level of chemical fumes. On Monday, Nov. 14, a certified industrial hygienist was brought in to test the air and determined it was safe to return the lab to its normal operation. A follow-up inspection will be held after the lab has been running for several days.

Metro selected as NCAA Division II focus group site

For the 282 institutions that comprise the National Collegiate Athletic Association second division, it's no secret: Division II has image issues. Selected as one of four Division II focus group sites, Metro is hosting a group Nov. 16. The College's focus group consists of faculty, administrators, athletics staff, representatives from student services, a student athlete and a member of the Denver community. Metro has won three national championships in the last five years-two in men's basketball (2000 and 2002) and one in women's soccer (2004).

Adjunct wins Fulbright

Jonathan K. Zartman, an adjunct lecturer in Metro's political science department, is in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on a Fulbright Scholarship.

Zartman has been in Uzbekistan since September, lecturing and conducting research in American Studies and Uzbek curriculum development at the Samarkand Institute of Foreign Languages. He will remain there through July 2006.
