Metro’s
Student Government Assembly has announced its election will
be held April 23 to 29 through MetroConnect, Metro’s
online Web site.
Applications for executive and senatorial positions are now
being accepted and students may pick up intent-to-run forms at the SGA office,
Tivoli 307.
Applications for the election must be turned in to the Office
of Student Life no later than noon on April 19.
Students who wish to run for executive positions must circulate
petitions and secure 100 student signatures along with student identification
numbers, while students running for senate seats need to secure only 50 signatures.
Applications must also include the candidate’s biography
of no more than 300 words, which will appear next to the candidate’s name
on the electronic ballot.
After submitting an application, candidates must attend one
of the four remaining informational meetings.
Informational meetings will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m. April 13, 4 to 5 p.m. April 17, 12 to 1 p.m. April 18 and 1 to 2 p.m. April
19.
The meetings will be run by the Election Commission and will
inform candidates of rules specific to the election, especially those concerning
campaigning for the election, as campaign issues have caused problems in past
elections.
All current SGA members must be re-elected into their positions,
so every position is up for contest, including president, vice president, student
trustee, the two Student Advisory Committee to the Auraria Board representatives
and the 15 senate seats.
