A scene from “6 ft. in 7 min.,” the film entered into the Starz First Look Film Festival by Rafael Del Toro, a student from New York University. The festival takes place at the Starz FilmCenter from April 20-23.

A legend, some students and a ton of zombies are coming to the Starz FilmCenter.
More than 40 short films will be shown at the sixth annual Starz First Look Film Festival April 20 to 23.
Student filmmakers from around the world will compete in seven categories, ranging from Best Documentary to animation to cinematography.
Wade Gardner and Josh Weinberg, two former students from the Colorado Film School, started the festival in 2001. According to their Web site, they wanted to showcase film projects that would never be seen outside of school. That inaugural event showcased 33 projects in a three-hour period by students across Colorado.
Since the festival’s humble beginnings, several features have gone on to win prestigious awards and make their way through larger festivals such as Cannes and Telluride.
This year’s festival begins on Thursday with a screening at 8 p.m.
There will be a late-night screening on Friday night, which will feature a horror theme. The Web site describes it as “an uncut, uncensored, totally campy program.”
Legendary nonfiction filmmaker, Albert Maysles, will be the honored speaker at this year’s festival. He will give a talk at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the King Center. Maysles and his late brother, David, were pioneers in creating films without scripts, sets or narration, about life unfolding. The brothers have delved into a wide range of culture from The Rolling Stones in “Gimme Shelter” to Truman Capote in “With Love From Truman.”
At 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, film teachers from various colleges and schools around Colorado will hold a panel discussion on “What’s being taught at Colorado Film, Mass Communications and Art schools.”
The closing night screening will take place at 8 p.m., Saturday, followed by the awards ceremony.
Advance tickets for all screenings are available at the Starz FilmCenter box office or by ordering online at www.denverfilm.org. Tickets are $8.50 for the general public and $5.50 for students and Denver Film Society members.    Festival passes are available to the general public for $45.50 and $31.50 for students and DFS members and can only be purchased at the box office. For more ticket information, call the Starz FilmCenter at (303) 893-3456.
