Liberals
take a laissez-faire approach to immigration law

Sometimes,
defending the law is tough. For instance, when dealing
with the thousands of people who have illegally migrated
into the United States from Mexico. Somehow, those in favor
of upholding the law are being demonized by those who couldn’t
care less about it.
It’s another battle of conservatives vs.
liberals, and the liberals are winning, not because they are right, but because
they are masters of playing politics. They’ve managed to convince Congress
that anyone who wants strict enforcement of the borders is a racist. They’ve
also managed to gloss over the fact that they support people who break the law.
And in the process, they’ve managed to make this country more prone to
a terrorist attack.
The race card is constantly thrown into the mix
in today’s politics. Even though everyone should want secure borders, the
leaders of the pro-illegal movement try to mask the real issue by embracing slogans
like “No human being is illegal.” Very well, but they’re missing
the point. We refer to illegal aliens as such because they’ve broken the
law, not because they’re some sort of secondary human being. In the end,
it shouldn’t matter whether these people are Mexican, Canadian, or Lithuanian.
If they cannot enter our country legally, then they cannot enter our country.
Most conservatives have nothing against legal immigration; our nation was founded
upon it, and it has made this country the melting pot it is today.
Every time I hear someone defending illegal immigration
(as they remove the “illegal” part from the conversation), I ask
myself why there are even borders. Seriously, it seems that some people believe
America is an open market anyone can enter whenever they want. If this was the
case, there would be no America. The world would just be a giant, chaotic territory.
When looking at why so many people are crossing
the border into the United States from Mexico, the first question that pops into
liberals’ minds is: In what way is America responsible for this? In their
classic, patriotic fashion, the far left has weaved a wonderful story about how
the greedy, capitalist United States is responsible for all the world’s
turmoil, including Mexico’s. Never has it crossed their minds that the
corrupt Mexican government might have something to do with it. In any case, this
is Mexico’s problem, and Mexico must deal with it, and not by assisting
their citizens in sneaking into our country.
I’ve always trusted President Bush with
matters of national security, but it appears that he and many of his fellow Republicans
have lost their backbone on this issue. They are afraid to be called racists,
and in turn, do not stick up for the American people. The president even referred
to those who support secure borders as lacking “compassion.”
Sadly, while we bicker over who has “compassion” and
who does not, terrorists could be entering this country. Who knows what kind
of attack could ensue? Open borders, especially in a post-9/11 era, should be
an obvious no, but there are not enough strong politicians out there willing
to enforce the law.
