Preliminary results of the Metro Student Government
Assembly election indicate that Aaron “Jack” Wylie will retain
his seat as president and the seat of vice president will be vacant.
The announcement, posted on MetroConnect, reads: “The
position of Vice Presidenthas not been filled and therefore will be treated
as a vacancy. This vacancy will be filled through the process outlined in the
SGA
constitution.”
The SGA constitution does not outline what should
be done about a vacant vice president’s seat, according to Wylie. Wylie
said the seat will be filled according to a process decided upon by the election
commission.
According to the SGA Web site, the preliminary
results of the election were scheduled to be posted May 1. The Election Commission
bylaws require that the preliminary results be released within 72 hours of balloting
completion.
The Student Court agreed to approve a rescheduling
of release dates for the final election results, as requested by Wylie and the
Election Commission after the election procedures fell behind in April, Wylie
said.
The SGA constitution bylaws require that the final
results be released no later than April 25. The final results will now be released
no later than May 5.
Members of the Spring 2006 Election Commission include Election Commission Chair
John Polzin and members Steve Hudman,
Eric Null and Ryan DeSchull.
At the SGA Senate meeting April 26, some senators
questioned whether or not to pay members of the commission the $100 each that
was promised them upon their appointment.
Senator Jordan Bair said she did not feel they
did the job they were asked to do, after she and other members of the Senate
participated
in readying the election.
“Everyone was just frustrated with the process,” Wylie
said. “The bylaws do not give them (the Election Commission) the nuts and
bolts.”
Wylie said next year the SGA will be discussing what can be done to have the
fairest election possible, and will write up an addendum for the Election Commission
to follow.
In the end, the Senate passed a motion to pay
the Election Commission members $100 each.
In other election results, incumbent Brian M.
Glotzbach was re-elected Student Representative of the Board of Trustees, and
incumbent Jordan Bair and Nicole Barringer were elected to the Student Advisory
Committee to the Advisory Board.
