9News vehicle involved in collision on campus

A 9News vehicle and a black Nissan collided around noon Friday,
May 19 at the corner of Ninth Street and Auraria Parkway.
According
to police on the scene, the driver of the Nissan ran a red
light while heading south on Ninth Street. Byron Reed,
the driver of the 9News vehicle, was heading east on Auraria
Parkway and hit the car on the passenger side.
The two passengers
of the Nissan were taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital for
observation, police said. Neither driver had serious
injuries.
"I hope everyone’s OK,” Reed
said.
Biology chair elected
to Board of Trustees

Joan Foster, chair and professor of biology, has been elected faculty
trustee on the Metro State Board of Trustees.
Foster brings a solid
knowledge of the College and also has the added perspectives of
a chair, an alumna, the faculty representative to
the Alumni Association Board and a former president of the Faculty
Senate.
In addition, Foster was a five-year member of the Faculty
Advisory Committee, or FAC. Foster replaces English professor Eugene
Saxe, who had served in the position since 2002.
Foster’s
two-year terms starts July 1.
CO-AMP receives $2 million
from NSF for next five years

CO-AMP, the Colorado initiative to support minority science and
math students, has received $2 million from the National Science
Foundation for the next five years.
The Louis Stokes Alliance for
Minority Participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics is a national program designed
to increase the numbers of under-represented students graduating
with degrees in these areas.
About 100 students participate in
Metro State’s CO-AMP program
every semester.
Colorado’s program has been in existence
for 10 years. |
