Aurariaâs list of repairs and renovations to campus buildings is extensive, but in a Campus Planning and Design Committee report, the campusâ controlled maintenance request names the top ten most-needed repairs for 1998 to 1999. These projects, which are worth about $5 million, are part of a five-year campus maintenance plan.
ãMost of these buildings are 20 years old,ä said Rosemary Fetter, communications director for Auraria. According to the 1998-99 Controlled Maintenance Request report, Auraria is requesting state money for the total replacement of the air conditioning and heating systems in one building each year over a period of a 10-years.
The Science Building is the first building to get its Heating and air conditioning systems updated.
The Library and the Arts Building are next on the schedule for air conditioning and heating work, Hartford said.
Here is the controlled maintenance list of the top-ten most needed repairs to campus facilities:
1. Repair or replace the Fire Protection Systems: replace outdated fire alarm panels and devices. Phase 1 was funded July 1996 This yearâs repairs will cost about $350,000.
2. Heating and air conditioning system repairs: Primarily to the Science Building. The cost is estimated at $1.65 million.
3. Plaza deck and roof: the deck leaks and the roof is aging and needs repair. The cost is estimated at about $450,000.
4. Plumbing: The acid waste system in the Science Building and the plumbing and sewer system running from Ninth Street Houses need repair. Estimated cost is about $380,000.
5. High voltage electical distributors: Current systems have a rated life of 20 years. This plan will phase replacement over three years. The cost is estimated at about $70,000.
6.Heating and air conditioning system in the South Classroom. Estimated cost is about $800,000.
7. Lighting and wiring: Modular plugs are causing lighting failures and pose a fire danger. Light fixtures need to be secured properly. The cost will be about $270,000.
8. Exterior doors: age and use have worn them out, specifically the automatic handicap doors. The cost will be about $200,000.
9. Tenth Street Mall: the sidewalk and courtyards need resurfacing. That will cost around $500,000.
10.Concrete entryways: many need repair. Cost: about $75,000. |
