Faculty to evaluate Kaplan

Metro professors are poised to begin their first-ever comprehensive performance evaluation on Metro President Sheila Kaplan.

Monys Hagen, president of the Faculty Senate, said the evaluation is meant to inform Kaplan of her strengths and weaknesses in the eyes of Metroâs teaching corps.

ãThe intent is not to ding her,ä Hagen said. ãThe intent is to create a valuable tool for her.ä

Kaplan declined to say how she will interpret results of the evaluation since Metroâs governing board is the only body officially charged with scrutinizing her performance.

ãI have no thoughts about this whatsoever, I get my evaluation done by (Metroâs) Trustees,ä Kaplan said.

Dispersement of the evaluation to each member of Metroâs faculty will likely begin the week after spring break, Hagen said.

The survey asks professors to rate Kaplan on myriad issues ranging from how much effort she puts into eliminating income inequities at the college to how effective she is at fundraising and representing Metro to public and private institutions.

Hagen said the results of the evaluation will be available by end of semester.
