Students will soon be able to cash checks, take out loans and deposit money at Auraria.
The Denver Credit Union and the Federal Credit Union have both signed five-year leases and will open for business in the Tivoli as early as this summer.
Dave Caldwell, the Tivoli lease manager, said the two credit unions were originally going to share a space in the Tivoli, but now each will have its own space because a sports clothing store recently vacated its space in the Tivoli.
Caldwell said the two operations will benefit from the new arrangement because they have more room to expand if their businesses thrive.
ãThey did their homework by planning for the future of their business,ä Caldwell said.
The Denver Credit Union, which will serve Metro students, will be in what is now Metroâs Intercollegiate Athletics office near Cost Cutters and the ticket window in the Tivoli. The Athletics office will be moved to the third floor of the student union because Tivoli officials want more businesses on the second floor. The Denver Credit Union will offer services that include fullfunction automated teller machines, which will be used for regular transactions such as deposits, account information and withdrawals. The credit union will also have loan officers and service representatives for opening new accounts and loans.
The Federal Credit Union, which will take over the space where Pure Energy, a sports clothing store, used to be and will serve University of Colorado at Denver students, also will have ATMs for regular transactions and credit union employees for opening new accounts and loans.
Andy Eiche, the Federal Credit Union director of university branching operations and projects manager, said that the ATM machines will not charge its members for using the machines. Eiche said the Auraria Campus is unique in that people are here both night and day. He said experimenting with banking hours will be a must.
The hours of operation for the Federal Credit Union, will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Eiche said that those hours are subject to change after he gets input from students. It will be open July 30, but Eiche said the credit union could open by the end of June.
Eiche said that the Federal Credit Union chose Auraria as a location because its other branch is in Boulder is inconveniently located for UCD students.
Bonnie Nigol, executive director of the Denver Credit Union, said that credit union will be open for business Aug. 17 and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Wayne Harubin, president of the Denver Credit Union said that Auraria is a very exciting place to expand.
ãStudents are dynamic, and there is a constant replenishment on the campus,ä Harubin said. ãThat is a good mix.ä |
