The black hole that has loomed since spring next to Hammondās Sweet Shop in the Tivoli will soon be filled by a convenience store franchise.
Campus C-Stores, which operates on campuses nationwide, took over Snack Attack next to Tivoli Copies in August. The storeās pickings are slim in the Snack Attack space because it is reducing stock and marking down prices to prepare for the move in October, manager Chiffawn Sykes said.
But Sykes said students can expect an array of new options at the new store, including three different varieties of Trojan condoms, and Zig-Zag cigarette papers and lighters. The store will not sell cigarettes or other tobacco products because The Boiler Room already provides them. Tivoli managers didnāt want unnecessary competition.
The new location will also provide more open space, giving people with disabilities easier access, said Barb Weiske, director of the Tivoli Student Union and Campus Auxiliaries. Snack Attack was operated by the Auraria Book Center.
Snack Attackās exit was imminent, Weiske said. Tivoli management was looking for a business that would take out a long-term lease.
Rick Newbie, the owner of the Auraria Campus C-Store, who also owns several other C-Stores around the country, signed a 5-year lease.
Weiske said C-Stores will end up paying a minimum of $75,000 for the 5-year lease plus 8 percent of sales, which she estimates at $25,000 or higher.
Snack Attack managers did not want a long-term lease, she said, adding that Campus C-Stores was selected because it specializes in college studentsā needs. |
