Our Future

As Metro State nears its 50th Anniversary, we are committed to future generations of Roadrunners by working towards the following important initiatives, projects and programs:

  • Strategic Name Initiative
Mission the same? Absolutely. First three master’s programs approved in the past year? You bet. Two multi-million dollar capital construction projects underway? Yes, we are proudly changing the downtown Denver skyline. Roadrunners? Forever. With this newfound growth, the Board of Trustees on March 9, 2011 voted to pursue legislative authority to change the institution’s name to “Denver State University.” Stay tuned as we await the legislative decision that will be made this session.

  • Center for Visual Art at the Santa Fe Art District
In June 2010, the Center for Visual Art opened at its new location in the heart of the Santa Fe Art District. The new location offers more than 22,000 square feet of property, including 9,000 square feet of gallery space, 6,000 square feet of outlying buildings and 15 parking spaces.

  • Hispanic Serving Institution initiative
The College has set a goal of becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) as it strives to increase its Latino student enrollment from 13 percent in 2007 to 25 percent. The HSI designation brings benefits to all students and faculty, with funding available for projects that range from student support programs to classroom technology.

  • Hotel Learning Center
The Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center (HLC) at Metro State will offer the Denver community two assets: a fully functioning flagged hotel and a learning laboratory for students.  Located in the heart of Denver, west of the corner of Speer Blvd. and Auraria Pkwy., the HLC is expected to include an estimated 180 rooms, conference facilities and more than 21,000 square feet of academic space, including classrooms, specialty learning labs and faculty offices. The hotel will be run by the professional hotel management firm Sage Hospitality, and will provide hands-on training opportunities for students in Metro State’s Hospitality, Tourism and Events department. The HLC is scheduled to be completed in 2012.

  • Student Success Building development
The new 8.5 acre Metro State Neighborhood along Auraria Parkway between 7th and 9th Streets kicks off this year with the groundbreaking for the 143,000 square feet Student Success Building, which will house classrooms, faculty office spaces, along with a one-stop shop for a wide range of College supports services.

  • Science Building expansion and renovation
The Science Building supports the training of future science and technology workers. With students from all three institutions, the building’s expansion and renovation facilitates the education of more future scientists of color than any other location in the state.

Check back often for updates on how we are moving forward to impact future generations of Roadrunners.
