LAS 2810-3 Integrated Arts and Humanities I (2 + 2)
Prerequisite: ENG 1020
This interdisciplinary course, the first in a two-part sequence, is an
integrated study of the visual arts, literature, music, drama, and philosophy
of the ancient, medieval and Renaissance world. It explores humankind's
cultural legacy and focuses thematically on the concerns of origin, self-knowledge,
identity, world-view and society that many cultures, both Western and
Eastern, share in common and also takes note of the unique contributions
of different artists, writers, and thinkers to that process. Learning
approaches will include lecture, discussion, projects, and attendance
at a minimum of three cultural events.
LAS 2820-3 Integrated Arts and Humanities II (2 + 2)
Prerequisite: LAS 2810
As part of a two-semester sequence, this interdisciplinary course continues
the integrated study of the arts and humanities in the world of the seventeenth
through twentieth centuries, from the baroque and the age of reason to
Romanticism and the modern period. It considers the effects of scientific
discovery, industrialization, social change, and technology on their development
and the interaction of diverse cultures on an international and global
basis, and also takes into account the unique contributions of different
artists, writers, and thinkers. Learning approaches will include lecture,
discussion, projects, and attendance at a minimum of three cultural events.
