Assistance for Students

The Office of the Dean of Letters, Arts and Sciences provides support for students in a variety of ways. Metropolitan State College of Denver can be confusing at times and we strive to provide accurate information and appropriate answers to your questions. We do our best to assist students with problem-solving.
We coordinate and process a number of procedures for the School of LAS, including requests for late enrollment, requests for course overloads, requests to register for two courses with conflicting schedules, grade appeals, and requests for an exception to an academic standard through the BASE appeal.
We provide information about Metro State’s policies and procedures for students interested in pursuing study abroad opportunities offered through another institution or program outside of Metro State.
Students can choose to participate in a Metro State-sponsored Study Abroad program such as the London Semester (offered each Spring semester) or the Guadalajara Program (offered Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters). For further information about these programs, contact the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs at 303-556-5382. The Department of Modern Languages also sponsors short-term study abroad opportunities.
Departments, institutes, and centers in LAS sponsor a number of co-curricular activities each year that enrich campus and community life such as Black History Month in February, Women’s History Month in March, a number of local, national and international speakers as well as music events and festivals, theatre performances, and art shows. Students and community members are encouraged to participate in these exciting educational opportunities. In addition, the Institute for Women’s Studies and Services and the Writing Center provide support services to students in need.
Student input is important to us, so each year we ask the departments to assist us to appoint a Student Advisory Council to LAS. This council meets two or three times each year so that the dean can gather feedback directly from students on issues such as advising, the Portal, teaching evaluations, and college policies.
You are welcome to visit us to ask questions about academic policies and procedures.
Dr. Luis Torres, Ph.D.
Interim Associate Dean of LAS
