Developing Personal Sites
Every student, faculty, and staff member at Metropolitan State College of Denver is welcome to create and post their own web site. All site developers are expected to adhere to the college's Responsible Use Policy and follow all copyright laws.
You will need to follow the two steps below in order to set up your account server web pages.
- Activate Your User Account
This will provide you with your user name and an initial password which you will need to change.
- Configure Your Account
You will need to store your HTML documents in your UNIX account on Clem. This document outlines the exact commands you will need to configure your account to serve web pages.
The following links will assist you to create your html pages and publish them to the server.
- Creating HTML Documents
The Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the foundation of the World Wide Web. You must either learn the basics of HTML or learn to use one of many HTML Editors.
- Transferring your Files to the Server
You will need to transfer your HTML documents from your local machine to your account on Clem. The document provided outlines how to accomplish this using FTP or for Faculty/Staff using Dreamweaver.
- Defining a Site in Dreamweaver
Dreamweaver is available on the standard image for faculty and staff. This document outlines how to configure Dreamweaver to serve as both your html editor and ftp client.
- Quick guide to UNIX commands
You will need to store your HTML documents in your UNIX account on Clem. You may want to learn some basic commands to aid in this process. This document outlines some very basic UNIX commands and their uses.
