Handicap Parking on Campus

A special AHEC permit is required in handicap permit areas. A permit can be purchased at the Parking and Transportation Center, (303) 556-2000. A state handicap placard, handicap license plate, or disabled veteran license plate is required for daily fee, metered, or hourly spaces. Handicap parking meters have a maximum time limit of four hours at a rate of $1 per hour. The meters accept quarters, dimes and nickels.

There is no free parking at meters even with a handicap placard or plates.

RTD

RTD was the first transit agency in the nation to require wheelchair lifts on all new bus orders and more than 98% of RTD's regular service is currently wheelchair accessible. Even so, not all of the disabled community can use the regularly scheduled service. For some people, Access-a-Ride may be the answer.

 

Access-a-Ride

"Access-a-Ride" is a paratransit service mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act for those who are:

  • Unable to board, ride or exit from a bus, or
  • Whose impairments make it impossible to travel to & from regular bus stops

Customers must be certified before they may use the service. Certification requires:

  • An evaluation interview
  • Physician's verification may be required
  • No fee is charged to go through the certification process

Light Rail

Light Rail is fully wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair users should wait at the top of the accessibility ramps located at each station.

Handivan

The Handivan is an accessible escort service available to students with disabilities. The service is available (during semesters) from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. Call (303) 556-2001 to schedule a ride.

 

NightRider

For your safety, the Parking and Public Safety Division offers an evening escort service to take students, staff and faculty from any campus building to any Auraria parking lot The service is available during the Fall and Spring semesters from dusk to 10:00 p.m.,Monday through Thursday. Call (303) 556-2001 to schedule a ride. Escort service is available at other times from Campus Police at (303) 556-3271.
