Prerequisite Requirements

Metro State’s Master of Professional Accountancy program requires students to have certain undergraduate prerequisite courses before admission into the program.  These courses will provide the necessary accounting foundations for success in the program and future careers.  Professional work experience may be granted as waivers for some of these prerequisites and is determined by the Graduate Committee.  Applicants who are requesting to use prior work experience as prerequiste waivers should contact the Graduate Coordinator prior to submitting an application.  The following courses should be completed with a passing grade prior to admission into the program:

  • ACC 2010 Principles of Accounting I
  • ACC 2020 Principles of Accounting II
  • ACC 3300 Accounting Information Systems
  • ACC 3510 Intermediate Accounting I
  • ACC 3520 Intermediate Accounting II

Although not necessary, depending on a student’s concentration in the MPAcc program and professional goals, other prerequisite courses may be necessary.  The most common being:

  • ACC 3090 Income Tax
  • ACC 4200 Auditing
  • ACC 3400 Cost Accounting

Students who come from a non-business background should have experience with computer spreadsheet applications and database management, e.g. Excel and Access.  Students should also have a working knowledge of the basic tools of business calculus.
