Concurrently Enrolled High School Students
We are pleased you are interested in enrolling in a college course while still a high school student. The State of Colorado provides several options for high school students who meet high school standards to begin taking college classes early. In order for you to partipcate in any of the programs listed below, an agreement must be in place between MSU Denver and your school district.
Ascent Program:
- This program is for high school students who have fulfilled all local school district graduation requirements at the end of 4 years, and has completed, or is scheduled to complete, 12 credit hours of postsecondary course work. Students must be college ready in accordance to the pathway they enroll. Any remedial coursework previously taken does not qualify as a part of the 12 credit hours of required college coursework. The school district pays for tuition (not fees or books) up to the community college tuition rate and the remainder will be billed to the student (Please note: This program begins fall 2012).
Concurrent Enrollment (CE) Program:
- This program is for high school students under 21 years of age who are enrolled in the 9th – 12th grade in a school district and who demonstrate academic preparedness. Concurrent Enrollment students earn both high school and college credit for the same course, and the students’ share of college tuition (not fees or books) is paid by the school district up to the community college tuition rate and the remainder will be billed to the student. Students in 12th grade may enroll in college basic skills courses, if approved by their school district. High school students who are retained for instructional purposes beyond the 12th grade may not enroll in more than nine college credits concurrently during the following year. To enroll in a course at an eligible postsecondary institution, a student must have completed the minimum course prerequisites and all required assessments (Please note: This program begins Fall 2012).
Student Education and Enrichment Program (SEE):
- This program is for high school students 16 years or older and it allows them to enroll in college courses at MSU Denver as special nondegree-seeking students. SEE students are eligible to take classes year-round—fall, spring and summer. There are no limits on the type of courses other than academic prerequisites and assessment test requirements. These enrollments are not state-funded nor is the tuition paid by the school district. Home-schooled students may participate in the SEE Program.
The purposes of these options include promoting content standards, providing academic challenges and providing access to academic courses that may not be available at a local high school to meet high school graduation requirements.
