Now that you've been accepted to Metro State and are ready to get started, we're ready to help you with the process. Just follow the steps to success and you'll be on your way to achieving your academic goals.
1. ACTIVATE YOUR METROCONNECT ACCOUNT
MetroConnect is the College's official means of communication with students. Log in to MetroConnect at metroconnect.mscd.edu, click on "New User" and follow prompts to log in and set your password. For questions, call the Information Technology Help Desk, 1-877-352-7548. Computer access is available on campus in the library and the Tivoli.
2. COLORADO STATE RESIDENTS
Complete the College Opportunity Fund (COF) application form at CollegeinColorado.org. Resident students can qualify for a COF stipend which may pay a portion of their in-state tuition. (You will need to authorize the COF each semester when you register for classes through MetroConnect.)
3. ORIENTATION
ALL degree-seeking students are required to complete an orientation as part of the pre-enrollment process. Go to www.mscd.edu/~nso for more information, dates, times and locations. Meet faculty, staff, and fellow students while learning how to get involved and be successful in college. ALL degree-seeking Transfer students who are 20 years or older may complete the orientation requirement online and should check their Metro State e-mail account for instructions.
4. ASSESSMENT
Complete necessary assessment tests in the Assessment and Testing Office, Tivoli Student Union Room 347. Call 303-556-3677, or go to www.mscd.edu/~testing for questions.
Students who have taken the ACT or SAT and have sub scores at or above the following are exempt from the respective assessment tests:
- ACT Reading 17 SAT 430
- ACT English 18 SAT 440
- ACT Math 19 SAT 460
Please note that ACT and SAT scores are valid for only five years.
5. PREVIOUS COLLEGE CREDITS
Make an appointment with or stop by the Transfer Services Office in Central Classroom 106, 303-556-3774 or at mscd-transferquestions@mscd.edu, for transfer advising, including:
- Preliminary transcript evaluation (bring copies of previous college transcripts)
- Connection to your major department
Also, make sure and and request that your official college transcripts be sent to Metro State. Previous college transcripts are required to be on file prior to the start of your second semester at Metro State.
6. ADVISING AND REGISTRATION
Visit the Advising Center, Central Classroom 104, to meet with an advisor and register for classes. Register early to avoid the late registration fee. Before meeting with an advisor, please review Metro State's list of majors at www.mscd.edu/~advising/ProgramSheets2008.htm.
7. FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIP
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Metro State's School Code is 001360.
Contact Financial Aid, 303-556-8593 if you have questions after completing your FAFSA form and to ensure that your financial aid file is complete with all requirements.
Complete a Metro State scholarship application.
8. BOOKS/SUPPLIES/STUDENT ID
To get your student ID card and validation sticker, bring $10 cash or credit/debit card, a copy of your class schedule and a valid photo ID to the Commuter Resource Center, located in Tivoli Student Union, Room 269.
9. TUITION
Pay tuition and fees at the Cashier's Office, Central Classroom 107, by 5 p.m. on the Friday before classes begin. each semester. In-state students who fail to meet the deadline will be assessed a 4 percent service charge and out-of state students will have all classes dropped.
10. MANDATORY HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENT/WAIVER OPTION
Students taking 10 credit hours or more in the Fall and/or Spring or 8 credit hours in the Summer are required to participate in Metro State's student health insurance program unless proof of current and valid coverage is presented and an electronic waiver is submitted to the Student Health Insurance Office via MetroConnct. The waiver can be submitted by students who have outside health insurance that meets each of the College's four (4) minimum waiver standards. Waivers must be submitted by the waiver deadline or students will be automatically enrolled in and billed for student health insurance coverage. If applicable, students should discuss this policy with their parents.
11. MANDATORY IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENT
All students are required by Metro State to submit proof of immunization. Students must submit all required documentation directly to the Auraria Immunization Office. For more information, visit www.mscd.edu/student/resources/health/immunization.htm or stop by the Immunization Office in Plaza Building 149, adjacent to the Health Center at Auraria.
12. RESIDENCY
When you apply to Metro State, you will be asked a series of questions to determine your residency status for in-state or out-of-state tuition. All students who apply and seek to qualify for in-state tuition, as well as other forms of state of institutional aid are subject to the requirements of HB 1023 (Lawful Presence Law). Any student whose lawful presence is verified through the process of completing an application for COF or by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be considered to have met the requirements. 13. ACCESS CENTER
The Access Center assists students with disabilities in reaching their academic potential through equal access to education by providing reasonable academic accommodations to students with disabilities as mandated under ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
