2+2 Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. What is the 2 + 2 degree program?

A. 2 years at Front Range Community College or Community College of Aurora (60 hours) + 2 years enrolled as a Metro State student, taking Metro State classes
on the FRCC Westminster or CCA CenterTech or Lowry campuses (60 hours) = A bachelor's degree you can use, at a place you can easily get to and a price you can afford!

Q. Who can enroll in the program?

A. Students who have completed 60 hours of coursework at Front Range Community College or Community College of Aurora.

Q. Why should I get my bachelor's degree?

A. In addition to the knowledge you'll gain, your bachelor's is a more marketable degree, empowering you with a wider range of career options. And, it's a good investment in your future. While an associate's degree will earn you on average $8,000 a year more than if you had only a high school diploma, bachelor's degree holders earn on average $23,000 more than their high-school educated peers. (Source: 2003 Census Bureau statistics.)

Q. Why should I enroll in 2+2?

A. Location, location, location! 2+2 courses are upper-level Metro State courses taught by Metro State faculty on the FRCC Westminster and the CCA Centertech or Lowry campuses. In addition, Metro State offers the most affordable tuition of any four-year college in the state-our tuition and fees are not much higher than those of the local community colleges. Combine that with your tuition from your first two years at Front Range or CCA, and the 2+2 program offers the most economical way to earn your bachelor's degree. The 2+2 program offers you an individualized path to a relevant degree.

Q. I'm an FRCC/CCA student on financial aid. How will registering for these classes affect my financial aid?

A. Students should apply for financial aid awards through Metropolitan State College of Denver (Metro State) for courses taken under the 2+2 Degree Completion Program. A student must be admitted in the 2+2 Program and registered for Metro courses offered on the FRCC or CCA campus to be eligible for aid at Metro State.

Per federal guidelines, a student with concurrent enrollment is not eligible for aid at different institutions. A student is only eligible for financial aid assistance for courses that are applicable to the student's certificate or degree program. Upper level classes offered by Metro State are applicable to a Bachelors Degree and may or may not be applicable to an Associate Degree.

Therefore, for purposes of aid eligibility Metro State will serve as the Home Institution and will award and disburse aid based on the combined 2+2 Program applicable enrollment. The Community College will serve as the Host Institution and will not disburse federal or state financial aid.

  1. The student must apply for admissions to Metro State and be admitted as a degree seeking student. Once you are admitted you will be given a Metro State email account and access to your MetroConnect web account. You can check the status of your financial aid at http://metroconnect.mscd.edu/.
The official means of communication at Metro State is email and we send all correspondence about your financial aid via your MetroConnect email account.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and request the information be sent to Metro State. The Federal school code for Metro State is 001360. The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  3. For the Fall 2009, Spring 2010 or Summer 2010 terms, you must complete the 0910 FAFSA. The 0910 FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible after January 1, 2009. Awarding for the 0910 Academic Year will begin in mid March 2009.
  4. In addition, appointments at your 'host' Community College or at the Auraria Campus may be scheduled by calling the Metro State Office of Financial Aid.
  5. All students who receive Federal Stafford Loans are required to complete an Entrance Interview at each institution that they receive funds from. Students receiving Federal Stafford Loans at Metro State may complete the Entrance Counseling at www.asapubt.com and request the information be sent to Metro State.
  6. Financial aid enrollment hours will include both Metro State and Front Range Community College courses approved for the 2+2 Program.
  7. Financial aid disbursements will be deposited into the student's Metro State Student Account and the tuition and fees balance for only Metro State courses will be paid prior to the issuance of a refund check. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO PAY THEIR TUITION AND FEES FOR THE FRONT RANGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE courses.
  8. Students are required to meet the terms of the Metro State Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.
