Two Year Alternative Licensure Program (ALP 2)
ALP 2 is a two year program designed for candidates teaching general education with little or no previous teaching experience, or those who don't qualify for ALP 1.
Prior to Enrollment, ALP 2 candidates must:
- Meet Colorado Department of Education ALP Requirements
ALP 2 Year 1:
- Attend Summer Institute
- Attend MSU Denver classes
- Teacher Work Sample and Portfolio
- Demonstrate Proficiency on selected Benchmarks from the Performance-Based Standards for Colorado Teachers
- 113 hours of contact with support team
ALP 2 Year 2:
- Complete Teacher Work Sample / Portfolio
- Demonstrate Proficiency on remaining Benchmarks from the Performance-Based Standards for Colorado Teachers
- 113 hours of contact with support team
- District or Metro State recommendation to Colorado Department of Education for Initial License
Curriculum:
MSU Denver course curriculum content covers strands important to the development of an effective teacher. They include:
- Classroom discipline
- Classroom management
- Short and long range planning
- Unit and lesson plans, implementation
- Comprehensive assessment
- Educational Theory
- Current issues in education
Tuition and Grading:
2012-2013 tuition is $5,100.00 + approximately $600 in fees for the first year. Thirty credits are awarded during the first year. The second year of coaching will be $2,100.00. Zero credits are awarded for the second year. MSU Denver ALP 2 students are eligible to apply for financial aid for the first year only. During the second year, your coaching fees are not eligible for financial aid. Through agreements with many school districts, tuition costs may be payroll deducted monthly.

MSU Denver's Alternative Licensure Program does not charge out-of-state tuition, so the tuition rate will be the same regardless of residency status.
Criteria for grades include regular attendance, completion of all class assignments, participation, and demonstrated proficiency on the Performance-Based benchmarks from Colorado Standards for Teachers. Full participation is required for credit to be awarded. The Advisory Council will recommend successful candidates to Metro State for Professional Teacher Licensure from CDE.
