Metro State full speed ahead with master’s programs

On May 5, Gov. Bill Ritter held a signing ceremony at the Capitol for HB-1295: A Bill for an Act Concerning Authorizing Metropolitan State College of Denver to Offer Master’s Degree Programs. The bill changes existing legislation, which prohibited Metro State from offering graduate-level programs, to read as follows: “In furtherance of its role and mission, Metropolitan State College of Denver may offer master’s degree programs that address the needs of its urban service area.” To read more about this important bill, please CLICK HERE.

Graduate receives much more than diploma

Of the 1,400 members of the Metro State graduating class who received their degrees on May 17, one saw more than just her educational dreams come true. When Joyce Brand crossed the stage of the Colorado Convention Center to receive her diploma, she found, to her surprise, her son, Army Spec. Jeremy Albert, at the podium, her degree in his hand. Albert, who is recovering from a back injury sustained in Iraq when his convoy was hit, flew in on Saturday, unknown to his mother, on a 13-day leave from his duty station.
