Goal II.A. Formation of a School of Education
With the formation of a School of Education, the increased visibility and status of the Teacher Preparation programs will contribute to improved retention and completion rates, and to the enrollment of more students from under-represented groups. Institutional restructuring, including the formation of a School of Education, has been a stated goal of internal and external institution-wide studies which have included the full cooperation of the President, the Provost's Office, Deans, academic units, and academic advising.
The goals and objectives are designed to address the specific critiques by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE), the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the timing of tasks is scheduled to coincide with the due dates for reports back to these agencies.
A task force, chaired by Title III Education Activity Director, Rebecca Canges, has been formed to work on the School of Education proposal. The members are representatives from the teacher licensure and content areas to support an informed and collaborative process. The group will consider various models, best practices and State standards to develop a strong, innovative proposal.
