Career Opportunities with a Major in Art

Many jobs require a college educated individual. College graduates can use their education in a wide variety of occupations.

Many careers in the visual arts make use of the skills and knowledge acquired in the fine arts program. However, some careers require further education, apprenticeship training, or certification. Commercial design and graphics, environmental design and architecture, education, business, crafts, and fine arts all offer an array of possibilities for art graduates.

 

SKILLS RELATED TO ART

  • Ability to decipher and interpret the noverbal langauge of art and design

  • Ability to conceptualize both rationally and intuitively

  • Familiarity with major achievements in history of art and knowledge of the ways in which art reflects cultural values

  • Ability to communicate ideas and emotions creatively

  • Ability to recognize differences in shapes, shading, and color

  • Aptitude for spatial relationships
