Web Resources
The universe of Web sites related to faculty development is vast and expanding. One way to find what you may need is through a simple Google search. However, you can cut down on the clutter by focusing your search on sites that have been vetted for their usefulness by the CFD. The “tag cloud” below, created using Delicious.com, presents a visual depiction of the topics you’ll find within the Web sites the CFD has located. If, for example, you have questions about creating a syllabus, look through the tag cloud for the terms that are most closely related. In this case, “syllabus” is one of the available tags, and if you click on it, you’ll be brought to a list of Web sites with information relevant to the topic of creating effective syllabi.
Most of the tags that the CFD uses to bookmark Web sites are self-explanatory. Others perhaps merit some further explanation:
- Recommended—This tag designates the small handful of Web sites with which, from the CFD’s perspective, all faculty should be familiar. These are important tools and sources of information that can help anyone improve on what they are doing, especially with regard to teaching.
- Inventory—Web sites with this tag are tools that will help you or your students inventory your attitudes, perspectives, priorities, etc. Some examples include the Teaching Goals Inventory, useful as a first step in course design, or the VARK Questionnaire, designed to help students identify their learning styles.
- Conferences—These are Web sites for upcoming conferences on topics of teaching and learning. Whether you are interested in attending a conference as a “bystander” to learn about teaching and learning or you have a paper to present, these Web sites are a good place to begin looking.
- STEM—These are Web sites with useful insights and information on the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
- SoTL—This tag indicates Web sites that either disseminate or are about the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
