Center Staff

All of our advisors are here to assist you. All are generalists and have helped students develop a wide range of Individualized Degree Programs and to earn prior learning credit. They also have diverse backgrounds and interests.

Dr. Elizabeth Parmelee, Director, has a background in International Studies, education, and non-profit management. She has taught economics in Chile and Boston, and has worked with universities and public school districts to enhance education at all levels. eparmel1@mscd.edu

Dr. Colby Hatfield, a cultural anthropologist, is a part-time advisor with the Center. He has experience in the University Without Walls, formerly director of the Honors Program at Regis, has taught anthropology at MSU Denver and at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and worked in community and economic development in Tanzania. hatfield@mscd.edu

Dr. Christine Flug, Assistant Director, has a background in academic administration, particularly retention programming. A long-time instructor of composition, she earned a doctorate in English Literature. She has worked and taught at Harvard, the University of New Orleans, and the Community College of Denver, and brings to the unit a rich experience in student support, interdiscipilnary learning, and music. cflug@mscd.edu

Dr. Gerakina (Arlene) Sgoutas is a faculty member in Women's Studies who also advises IDP students in her spare time. With a background in International Studies, Women's Studies and Development, she has travelled to Egypt on a Fulbright program and advised dozens of successful IDP graduates. sgoutasg@mscd.edu

Sharon Wise, Portfolio Development Workshop instructor and interim Re-entry Coordinator, has a background in college administration and teaching. She has presented at numerous national conferences and two international conferences on the subjects of disability and mental health service delivery and program development. swise8@mscd.edu

Susan Heath, Program Manager, has been with MSU Denver for several years. She worked with the Office of Institutional Research prior to joining our team. heath@mscd.edu
