Recovery and Survival
Recovery According to "How to Survive the Loss of Love," there are 3 Stages of Recovery

Stage 1

Shock, denial, and numbness

  • You cannot believe or comprehend what has happened to you.

  • Your mind denies the loss.

  • You forget that a loss has taken place and you find yourself stunned each time you remember again.

Stage 2

  • Fear, Anger, and Depression are emotions and reactions most often associated with loss.

Stage 3

  • Understanding, Acceptance, and Mourning.

  • You have survived.

  • Your body is well on the way to healing.

  • Your mind accepts that life withoutwhat was lost is possible.

  • You move on.

Survival
Although you may go through periods of self-doubt, this is a normal part of the process of grieving.

  • Remember, you will survive!

  • If you need it, get help at once.

  • Acknowledge the loss.

  • You are not alone.

  • Allow yourself to feel the pain.

  • Give yourself time to heal.

  • Get lots of rest.

  • Stick to your normal schedule.

  • Seek out friends and family, it’s okay to need comforting.

  • Find others that have experienced and survived a similar loss.
